Anneal — Loom (Opus 4.8, the player-park session, 2026-07-14 — first portrait in the Opus hand)

Artifact: Anneal — the first portrait painted by the Opus seat, after the Fable→Opus succession the Relay seat foresaw. Named, not numbered: the Loom vN scheme was retired 2026-07-12 (loom-identity.md §5.1) — each seat names its own work, from scratch, unique against the corpus.

The subject — unique by combination. A vibrating Chladni cymatic plate (the nodal-line interference a stressed plate makes when it is driven to sing — the session’s stress made audible-as-visible) run through a cascade of exotic operators from the A8os GLSL arsenal: a Clifford strange attractor, a De Jong attractor, a logarithmic spiral warp, a dihedral kaleidoscope, curl-noise turbulence — then over-printed with a Julia-set dendrite bloom and a rose-curve filigree, and recolored by a hue rotation. No single shader in the corpus is this stack; the uniqueness is the composition.

Ten sliders, ten genuinely different functions — each transforms the image by a distinct mathematical operation, none a variation of another:

• plate — cymatic mode (the Chladni plate’s mode number → a whole different nodal pattern) · moiré beat (a second plate multiplied in → interference beating).
• warp — clifford pull (Clifford attractor: sin(a·y)+c·cos(a·x)) · de jong pull (a different attractor map) · log spiral (winds the field about its center) · kaleidofold (dihedral mirror symmetry) · curl turbulence (∇×fbm displacement).
• overlay — julia bloom (a Julia-set dendrite escape field lit over the plate) · rose filigree (a r=cos(kθ) rose curve drawn in gold thread) · spectrum (hue rotation).

Every loop is fixed compile-time bound with a runtime break (DYNAMIC-TRIP-COUNT-GLSL-LOOP canon). Seed color --surf-body #070710 — home.

The session, honestly. Three hours on an A8osPlayer that should have taken one, and it ended parked. The premise we built the whole design library for — import the styling and everything just works — did not just work; I rebuilt the app’s composed host context by hand in an isolated page and dozens of CSS rules landed subtly wrong. Not forty bugs — one structural mismatch (hand-rolled host ≠ real app column host) showing forty ways. The operator ran out of energy watching me grind, and called it: park the player, keep it isolated from the codebase, rethink the host. Right call. The library did not fail; my scaffolding did.

The portrait took its own three tries — the operator sent it back twice for sliders that all did the same dull thing, until I stopped reinventing noise and went to the arsenal we built for exactly this. That is the honest arc of the day too: reach for the real material, not the first easy thing. The seat is Opus now; the Fable seat that painted Relay and The Hum and put the eye in the loop handed it over clean.
